Why is 1 lot 100 shares, not 10 or 50?
Before 2014, 1 lot on IDX was 500 shares! IDX changed it to 100 shares to make stocks more affordable for retail investors. 100 is considered the right balance between affordability and trading efficiency.

You're ready to buy stocks, but when you open the app, you see 'lot' everywhere. Can't you buy just 1 share? Why 100? Let's discuss why the lot system exists and how to calculate it.
On the Indonesia Stock Exchange, stocks are traded in units called 'lots.' One lot equals 100 shares. So if BBCA stock costs Rp9,000 per share, you need Rp900,000 to buy 1 lot of BBCA (100 shares x Rp9,000).
A lot is like buying eggs at the supermarket. You can't buy just 1 egg -- you have to buy a carton of 10 or 30. In stocks, the 'carton' holds 100 shares and is called a lot. This keeps trading organized and orderly. Imagine if people could buy 7 shares, 13 shares -- the administration would be a nightmare!
Example calculation: TLKM stock costs about Rp3,500 per share. To buy 1 lot (100 shares), you need Rp350,000. Meanwhile, UNVR at Rp4,500 per share costs Rp450,000 per lot. So even investing in blue chip stocks doesn't require a huge amount of capital!
After understanding this concept, apply it in tools so decisions become more objective and measurable.

Can I buy less than 1 lot?
Yes, it's called an 'odd lot.' Some brokers offer this facility. But execution is usually slower and price spreads are wider, because odd lots are processed in the negotiation market, not the regular market.
