A trader is someone who buys and sells stocks (or other financial instruments) in the short term to profit from price differences. Traders can transact within days, hours, or even minutes. A trader's main focus is price movement, not company ownership.
If an investor is a farmer planting mangoes and waiting for harvest, a trader is a vendor at a traditional market. They buy cheap mangoes early morning from farmers, then sell them at a higher price by noon. They don't care if the mangoes taste good -- what matters is selling for more than they paid.
In Indonesia, many traders focus on 'gorengan' stocks (highly volatile, small-cap stocks) chasing quick profits. But more professional traders usually play in liquid stocks like BBCA, BMRI, TLKM, or ASII because their movements are more predictable and it's easier to enter and exit positions.
